Student Worship Band Camps
Develop Student Worship Leaders in One Week
A Building Your Band Camp is a week-long experience designed to help churches identify, train, and launch student worship leaders.
Students learn musical skills, grow spiritually, and rehearse together in bands — preparing them to serve in worship teams within their own church.
By the end of the week, students have experienced:
- instrument training
- band rehearsals
- worship leadership development
- real performance opportunities
And many discover a calling to lead worship for the first time.
1. What Happens During Camp?
Church leaders want to visualize the week.
A Week of Worship, Music, and Leadership
- During a BYB camp, students experience a rhythm designed to build both musical confidence and spiritual depth.
Morning Chapel
- Students explore the heart of worship and grow in their relationship with Christ.
Instrument Labs
- Small-group instruction helps students develop foundational skills quickly.
Band Rehearsals
- Students are placed into bands where they rehearse songs together.
Live Performances
- By the end of the week, bands share what they’ve learned through live worship moments.
This hands-on approach gives students the equivalent of months of musical experience in a single week.
2. Why Do Churches Love BYB Camps?
Why Churches Choose Building Your Band:
- Worship discipleship happens in your own church
- Local instructors can lead the training
- Students begin playing music quickly
- Camps are affordable for churches of every size
- Students develop both musical skill and spiritual maturity
Most importantly, churches discover that many of their future worship leaders were already sitting in their congregation.
3. What is the Impact in our Church?
Real Results
Over the past decade:
- 600+ students trained
- 150+ students now serving on worship teams
- dozens of churches impacted
Many students who begin BYB camps in middle school are leading worship by the time they reach high school.
4. How Can We Get in on This?
Bring Building Your Band to Your Church
If your church wants to develop the next generation of worship leaders, a BYB Band Camp can provide the pathway.
Schedule a short conversation to explore how a camp could work in your church.
SUMMARY
BYB is a culmination of decades of worship experience by multiple instructors who guide potential worship leaders from a starting point (zero experience) to actually playing in student and adult bands in their churches .
1. Learn an instrument from scratch:
- Piano
- Guitar: acoustic and electric
- Bass
- Drums
- Voice
- A/V & Tech
2. Enter the “conversation” of making music, by playing and sing songs together
3. Join a band in and perform with them
4. Study basic worship truth as a follower of Jesus Christ
5. Become familiar with the “Language of Music” (what many call basic music theory)
6. Church leaders call this camp experience “rocket fuel” for the young worship band participant.
7. Students enter the musical conversation in one week of camp!
8. Using this proven approach has resulted in:
- 11 different camps in the past fifteen years
- We have seen over 500 young people impacted for worship
- Students on at least twenty-five church stages
- Both student and adult worship leaders and band members in the Triad and the Triangle and throughout Jamaica.
HISTORY
Since its beginning in 2010, David Loftis and his team of worship leaders have been training dozens of young worshippers to populate the stages with backline band players, upfront worship leaders and support roles. This ministry continues once again now as a curriculum which you can use – or we will bring – into your local area.

WHY: developing worship leaders for God in the next generation is critical for our young family-oriented church plants to sustain their ministry. Reaching the next generation for Christ will involve dedicated worshippers. Ultimately, as John Piper says, “worship is the fuel that drives the engine of evangelism and missions” – so developing a next level of worshippers is critical for this generation and the next.
